Joint Injections

asdf

We offer joint injections for our suitable patients to help relieve pain and inflammation caused by certain joint and soft tissue conditions.

Joint injections are usually offered when other treatments, such as medication or physiotherapy, have not provided sufficient relief.

What conditions may benefit?

Joint injections may be considered for:

  • Arthritis or joint inflammation

  • Shoulder, knee, hip, or other joint pain

  • Bursitis or tendon-related pain

  • Reduced movement due to inflammation

Suitability is assessed on an individual basis.

What does the injection involve?

  • The injection usually contains a corticosteroid, sometimes combined with a local anaesthetic

  • The area is cleaned carefully and the procedure is carried out in a safe, sterile environment

  • Most appointments are brief and you can usually go home shortly afterwards

How to access this service

  • Patients must be assessed by their GP before an injection can be offered

  • This service is only available to patients registered at Prince of Wales Surgery
  • Not all joint pain is suitable for injection, and alternative treatments may be recommended

Important information

  • Joint injections may provide temporary symptom relief, which can last weeks to months

  • They are not suitable for everyone

  • Risks, benefits, and aftercare will be fully explained before the procedure

All joint injections are provided in line with NHS guidance, with patient safety and informed consent as a priority.
